DECKING QUESTIONS

Frequently Asked Questions

If you have any questions about your decking project please contact us.

The cost of decking can vary quite a lot, but we always work hard to provide find a solution to accommodate almost any budget.

Millboard Decking offer an amazing 25 year Guarantee and if installed and cared for correctly a softwood deck can also last a very long time.

Clean Millboard Decking with warm, soapy water and a stiff brush to remove dirt and debris. You can clean it as soon as dirt appears, or at least every 12–18 months. Softwood Decking requires a little more care and we recommend that you treat your decking each year with a suitable decking oil or preservative.

Some simple projects can be completed in one day, where as a more complicated Decking project with steps and different levels can be 1-2 two weeks.

Absolutely, please check out the images on our website, or check out our Instagram and Facebook Page.

In the UK, you generally don't need planning permission for raised decking if it meets certain criteria. However, you may need planning permission if your property is in a conservation area, listed building, or if the decking is too large or too high. We recommend you talk to your local council to be absolutely sure.

This is a question we get asked the most, as our UK climate isn’t too well suited for decking so incorrectly installed decking can be very dangerous. We recommend you be careful when enjoying your decking, particularly after it has rained. Also, please see our 'Ribs Up or Down?' question.

This is a hot topic for debate for decking installers all over the world, but we think we know the best way - 'Ribs Down, Smooth Side Up'. The purpose of the ribs on a decking board is to provide air flow where the board is in contact with the subframe, which in turns reduces the ability for the timber to have a large surface area on which to harbour moisture which in turn rots the timbers quicker. “But, Paul my supplier has decking with ribs both sides!” Yes, this is true, there are many decking boards with ribs both sides, personally we avoid these, as again with the ribs up the water sits in the ribs and causes the decking to rot quicker. and It is also a great breeding ground for algae, which is one of the main reasons that decks get so slippery!

For our Millboard installations we only ever use Millboards Stainless steel invisible fixings. For Softwood Projects we ted to only use stainless steel screws.

We cover all areas in and around Coventry including City Centre, Earlsdon, Stoke, Tile Hill, Foleshill, Cheylesmore, Allesley, Binley, Canley, Radford, Holbrooks, Hillfields, Kenilworth, Bedworth, Nuneaton, Leamington Spa, Rugby, Solihull, and Warwick.

Mrs Hopkins Bates road, Earlsdon

What a fantastic job, we are really pleased with the finished job, having to work in the dreadfull rain that day and managing to get the fence looking so good was brilliant.

Mr Uppal Stoke

PR fencing installed 16 panels of fencing at the end of March for me, and I must say they did an excellent job. I will recommend PR fencing to to all my friends and work colleagues without hesitation.
